Dr Sally Carson leads the CPSS Outreach Tumu alongside her role as Director of the NZ Marine Studies Centre, Dept of Marine Science, University of Otago. She bring expertise in science education, participatory science and community engagement. She has considerable experience leading educational initiatives where ākonga and the wider community engage with the marine environment, develop science skills and contribute to research and conservation projects. She has been the driver behind number of national education initiatives including the Aquavan (traveling programme) and Marine Metre Squared, a citizen science project on long term monitoring of the NZ seashore. Sally’s research and teaching has focused on intertidal ecology, science education and the impact of participatory science on student learning. She has written numerous educational resources and books including the Collins Field Guide to the NZ Seashore.
