The kaupapa of the Ruruku project is to bring the wider community together to wānanga around the planning and construction of a traditional sailing waka.
This project aims to understand the past, present and future mātauranga practices and fisheries management at Whareponga, on the East Coast of Te Ika a Māui.
This project will provide the opportunities for learning, training and reconnecting communities with productive coastal ecosystems and support the rangatiratanga of Rakiura Māori.
